Throw off your “Chains” with DBKM’s uplifting anthem of resilience.

Hailing from Nashville, vocalist Kyle Knudsen and drummer Colton Ward form DBMK – an alt-pop project that speaks to the complexities of modern living through an eclectic, buoyant sound and sensitive lyrics. Despite the difficult conditions of the pandemic-ridden years, the duo have embarked on their own DYI tours and even sold out multiple shows in their home state of Florida. 2020 also saw the birth of their debut EP Jump in the Dark, released to the joy of their dedicated fanbase, nicknamed the ‘KULT’.

Opening with a strong guitar riff layered with emotive vocals, ‘Chains’ unfolds like a friendly confession, touching on the vulnerability and confusion of the current generation. As he checks in with himself, Knudsen questions “What’s up with my ego lately?”, reflecting on how his anxieties hold him back like chains. Yet these chains don’t remain on for long, as the heady combination of sonic effervescence and affirming lyrics bring out the track from any hints of gloom. Afterall, there is much to celebrate; not in the least, yourself.

Embodying the main character energy that we all long for, ‘Chains’ encourages us to determine our own destinies and to strive for self-knowledge in this confusing world.
